Cleo's litter was born 10/17/08. She started labor at around 5 pm and started whelping at 6 pm. The last of nine pups was born just before midnight. There are 6 black pups and 3 yellows, 6 males and 3 females. Pups weighed 9 to 16 oz, with two pups being small and fragile. At first, poor Cleo didn't know what to do with the little squirming, mewing alien beings, but she quickly started warming up to the idea of motherhood. She was eagerly licking the pups delivered later on. While Cleo was outside, I moved the litter to the smaller pool in my bedroom, and Cleo was very confused when she came back in. She had absolutely no interest in the pups, and when I guided her into the pool, she initially just stood there. But she finally layed down and let the pups nurse. And she ate a hearty meal and drank lots of water, and then settled in with the pups for the night.
